Atlanta Falcons Diaper Cake
When I found out my neighbor was pregnant with a boy after having 5 girls, I knew I had to make her something special to celebrate! They are HUGE sport fans. So I found out their favorite team and made a sports diaper cake to match it.
They love the Atlanta Falcons football team, so I chose the team colors of red and black to decorate the diaper cake. It cost me $25 to make it.
Diaper Cake Supplies:
90 size 2 diapers
1- 1 1/2 inch red satin ribbon
1- 2 1/2 inch black ribbon
1- 3/8 inch black and white polka dot ribbon
1 red baby outfit (top and bottom)
red paper shred
black paper shred
red silk carnation flowers
pre-painted wooden football
1& 1/2 paper towel roll
lollipop stick
Team images printed from the computer
White curling ribbon.
I started by creating 4 layers of the diaper cake, all in a boutique style swirl. I tied white curling ribbon around each layer to hold the diapers in place. Then I stacked the cake, using one and a half paper towel rolls in the center. (I taped them together to make it tall enough). Once the cake was fully stacked, I started to decorate it.
Each layer was covered with the wide black ribbon. I layered the red ribbon over that. Then to add interest, I used another layer of the black and white polka dot ribbon on the top and third layers. I alternated the black and red shred paper on each cake layer. Then I added the wooden football to the front. I attached an image of the team mascot to the football.
For the top, I filled the top of the paper towel roll with paper towels. This gave me a base to stick the centerpiece in. I used 4 carnations to cover the top of the diapers and then stuck a lollipop stick in the center and taped the team's logo to the top.
I displayed the diaper cake on a cake stand. I rolled a baby outfit to look at roses and placed it at the bottom. It was the talk of the baby shower. Everyone really enjoyed the creativity that was involved in making it. ;)
