Formal Baby Shower Diaper Cake
I am absolutely in LOVE with this elegant tea party diaper cake sent in by our reader Carrie. I had to take a double take at first because it looks just like a wedding cake. The floral arrangement on it is beautiful!
Thank you for sharing your diaper cake photos with us Carrie! I am so inspired by your creativity!
I used a combination of newborn and size four diapers for this cake, which I made for my sister (she has a new baby and a toddler).
I used the traditional rolled diaper technique to build the 'cores' of each layer, then layered diapers on top of one another to create a 'scale' pattern. I alternated the direction of the scales for each layer.
I secured each layer with yarn, and then covered the yarn with pretty ribbon and lace.
I made a 'cap' for the top of the cake by cutting a circle out of cardboard, and hot-gluing faux flowers (purchased at a dollar store) and pearls to it. I also glued flowers to the cake base- being careful not to get any glue on the diapers themselves.
Lastly, I tucked flowers (of varying sizes and lengths) into each layer to create a nice 'streaming' look.
This cake was for a formal 'English tea party' themed baby shower.
